
TQUK Level 3 Diploma for Early Years Care and Education
Purpose
This Level 3 Early Years qualification prepares learners for employment in early years settings. It is fully recognised by the Department for Education and Ofsted and meets requirements for Early Years Educator Status and the Level 3 ratio.
Learners will develop knowledge and practical skills in:
- Child development and learning
- Health, safety, and wellbeing
- Safeguarding and inclusion
- Professional practice
- Transition and attachment
- Communication and partnership
Entry Requirements
- No specific requirements
- Recommended: Level 2 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent
- Minimum age: 16+
Course Structure
- Guided Learning Hours (GLH): 498 hours
- Additional self-study time: Approx. 202 hours
- Duration: Up to 12 months
- Delivery: Online learning, weekly sessions, e-portfolio.
Work Placement Requirement
- Must complete 300–350 hours in a real work environment (RWE).
- RWE must be an Ofsted-registered early years setting (e.g., nursery, pre-school, reception class, childminder).
- Must work with all age groups: babies, toddlers, and pre-schoolers
Assessment
- Range of methods: written assignments, observations, discussions, and work products.
- 17 mandatory units, totalling 70 credits
- All learning outcomes must be achieved (no grading).
Progression Opportunities
- Level 5 Diploma for Senior Early Years Practitioners
- Level 6 Diploma in Applied Innovative Practice in Early Childhood Pedagogy and Care
- Assistant roles in nurseries, children’s centres, pre-schools, or nursery classes in primary schools.
